40 years of history in the custom battery pack manufacturing industry is a significant milestone that all of us at Alexander Battery Technologies are proud to be a part of.
We believe we have been around as long as custom battery manufacturing itself, with a number of staff members that have been with the business for decades.
During that time, we have been lucky enough to support some of the world’s largest and most demanding OEM businesses in Europe and North America using the energy of our world-beating team.
In May 2023, we opened our brand new Battery Technology Centre (BTC) which has extended our manufacturing space and added twelve dedicated battery R&D labs, as well as more office space for our growing team.
The new world-class facility has given us the capability to safely develop battery packs and modules up to 800V and exceeding 100kWh, if required. This complements the recent renovation and expansion of our main production site and allows us to support virtually any project for custom battery pack development.
We also opened our offices in Frankfurt, Germany, providing Sales, Service and Support to our customers in the DACH region.
In 2020 we completed the first step of our own redevelopment, opening our new world-class manufacturing facility and expanded warehousing adding an additional 40,000 sq ft (~3750 sqm) of manufacturing and supply chain storage for our customers.
Acquired on 5th September 2019, by Shard Credit Partners, a profound new era of self-development began in our business. 2004 was a big year for the modern business, since our records indicate that this is when we shipped our first lithium-ion based battery pack to a customer. Invented in 1990, this is a great indication of how cautiously new battery chemistries and technologies tend to be adopted.
Twenty years later, variants of lithium-ion represent almost 100% of the custom battery pack manufacturing activities of the business.
Back in September 1997, with a growing need to expand, the business moved site to Doxford Drive on the South West Industrial estate, in Peterlee, where we still conduct our business to this day.
Just two years later, our CFO, Claire Brymer, joined as an apprentice in the Accounts department and started the journey to becoming a board member and key member of the leadership team.
On 16th May 1984, our current business was first established in the UK – Alexander Technologies Europe Ltd was born. The business was founded by Alexander Technologies Inc, a corporation located in Mason City, Iowa, which had been in business since 1967.
The main business was in two-way communications and biomedical batteries and chargers, using NiCad and NiMH chemistries.
