Alexander Battery Technologies has enjoyed remarkable growth since 2019. At the start of the year we were only operating from one unit that was, at the time, not fully optimised for maximum efficiency and we have come a long way since then. By April 2023 our operation will span 3 buildings that have been designed from the ground up for our operation including our newest, state-of-the-art R&D centre. We are immensely proud of the steps forward we have taken as a business during this time but we understand not everyone is able to experience them in person. For this reason, we developed a Google map style tour of both Unit 2 and Unit 4 to detail the interior plan of both main facilities. The tours feature insight into the processes we follow to make each and every-one of our custom battery packs.
Transition to Unit 2
In 2019 when Alexander Battery Technologies was only operating from Doxford Drive Unit 4, we started to seek a change in location as part of our desire for continuous improvement. The business looked in detail at the option of expanding into Doxford Drive Unit 2, the lease was agreed and 9 months later in January 2020 we moved into our updated state-of-the-art facility in Unit 2. The site was developed to ensure a facility that was clean, orderly and capable of delivering reliable manufacturing for batteries and battery packs. With the re-design, the business was able to fit 13 production lines, 3 labs, a specialised and dedicated training facility, meeting rooms and an area big enough to accommodate an additional 30 members of staff. Available capacity now exceeds 100,000 handheld-sized battery packs per month comfortably, with the potential for more on by implementing additional shifts.
Development of Unit 4
Last year, we turned our attention back to Unit 4, our original building, in order to bring it up to the standard seen in Unit 2 and to expand the capabilities of the business at the same time. This redevelopment is inspired by our customer’s desire to be able to produce bigger batteries, including high voltage products, as well as having more specialised lab spaces. These demands will be met with the upcoming creation of 12 dedicated lab spaces plus 2 large battery development areas. Upstairs in Unit 4 there will be further office space, capable of accommodating up to 60 members of staff, with additional meeting rooms and break-out spaces. There will also be a large auditorium that will allow the business the option to host both internal and external events for up to 150 people.
