Our people are the driving force behind everything we do. Our Meet the Team series is designed to give you a closer look at our battery project team and the individuals whose expertise, passion and personality power our innovation.

This time, we introduce Aidan Dutton, Commercial Design Engineer. Aidan is responsible for creating precise, production-ready mechanical designs that ensure our battery packs fit seamlessly into customer products and are optimised for efficient manufacture. Q1: Who are you?

My name is Aidan Dutton. I’m a Commercial Design Engineer here at Alexander Battery Technologies, and I’ve been with the company for about 18 months.

Q2: Can you tell us a bit about your career before joining ABT’s battery project team?

I graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2021 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After university, I went straight into engineering at a turning and milling company, where I specialised in using SolidWorks and CAD software. I’ve carried those skills over to my role here at ABT.

Q3: What made you want to join ABT?

I was attracted to ABT because it allows me to explore multiple disciplines of engineering. Most mechanical jobs focus solely on mechanical design, but at ABT my role is multifaceted and I get to learn about electrical engineering as well and apply that knowledge in my design work.

Q4: What do you enjoy most about your job?

The thing I enjoy most about my job is seeing my design come to life. I’m involved through every stage of the process, from initial research and 3D design, to prototyping with our 3D printers, and finally into production. It’s really satisfying to see something go from concept to reality

Q5: What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise people?

I’m a Sunderland season ticket holder, and I’ve been going to games for the last 8 years with my dad. As for my prediction for the three derbies this year, six points to Sunderland of course!
