Electronics Design Engineer
Overall purpose
We’re looking to hire a talented Electronics Design Engineer to develop a range of high-power applications our custom battery pack and charger products specifically for our automotive battery applications, including light automotive applications such as scooters, forklift trucks and three-wheel vehicles.
This role requires a skilled and experienced electronic engineer capable of circuit design and PCB layout.
- Salary range is £40-45k
- Working hours are 37.5 hours per week – 8:30-17:00 Monday – Thursday and 08:30-14:00 Friday (this role can be hybrid, if they have the necessary equipment)

Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and development of electronics related to battery packs: battery management and protection circuits; cell balancing circuitry; communications and other ‘smart’ battery features.
- Product development with utmost regard for product safety, and with design for manufacture and quality built in.
- PCB design, schematic capture, and layout, using Altium Designer software.
- Circuit design and component selection, creating bills of materials and documenting design decisions.
- Working within a multi-discipline team to ensure projects are delivered on time, costed appropriately and designed to a high standard
- Troubleshooting and testing your design.
- Taking part in FMEA and other processes to eliminate design errors and reduce risks.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- HNC minimum – ideally electronics engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years design experience within a relevant industry and all-round electronic design skills including design and troubleshooting.
- PCB design experience is essential.
- Experience with modern electronics CAD is essential, with the ability to move to Altium Designer if not previously familiar.
- Experience with automotive applications is highly desirable. Products will be developed in line with ECE 136 (Approval of vehicles of category L), UL 2271 (Batteries for light electric vehicles), and other standards, and must meet EMC requirements per ISO 11452 and ECE 10-06.
- Self-motivation with a high degree of creativity and initiative.
- Lateral thinking with the ability to provide realistic and innovative design solutions
- General understanding of digital electronics is essential and the ability to work closely with embedded software engineers.
- Keeps priorities under review, plans and works flexibly to cope with change in circumstances and demands.
