In build-to-print programmes, the starting point is a complete customer data pack that includes approved technical specifications, bills of material and product drawings. From there, the focus is on turning that design into a repeatable, controlled manufacturing process as quickly as possible.

What build-to-print battery manufacturing means in practice
Build-to-print is often referred to as contract manufacturing or make-to-print. It is where an OEM seeks a manufacturing partner to produce their existing product design.
For battery packs, this means the OEM retains ownership of the design, while we take responsibility for manufacturing it at scale.
Because the design work is already complete, programmes can move forward without early-stage design phases. That allows time to be focused on getting production ready.
From data pack to production-ready battery packs
Once we receive a data pack from a customer, several workstreams begin at the same time.
Materials are sourced through an established supply chain. Strong supplier relationships and buying power allow us to secure components within tight lead times.
At the same time, we prepare the production environment:
- Manufacturing routes are defined and configured in the manufacturing execution system
- Control plans are created to set out how the battery pack will be built and verified
- End-of-line test equipment is developed to suit the specific pack
- Weld trials are carried out and key processes validated
- Supplier first-off components are reviewed and approved
Running these activities in parallel, rather than sequentially, is what allows timelines to be reduced from months to weeks.
Maintaining control and traceability on fast-turnaround battery projects
Speed introduces risk if it is not managed properly.
On fast-turnaround battery pack programmes, transparency is critical. We provide clear updates on material lead times, production readiness and the critical path, so there are no surprises as the programme progresses.
Traceability is handled in the same way as any other production programme. Full manufacturing records, including product history documentation, are established from the outset. Although these types of programmes move at a faster pace, the same quality standards and process controls are maintained.
Why some battery pack programmes can reach production within four weeks
The ability to move quickly comes down to a combination of factors:
- A complete and well-structured customer data pack
- Timely delivery of any free-issue parts or components from the customer
- A responsive and proven supply chain
- The ability to run sourcing, validation and production setup at the same time
- Established manufacturing processes that can be deployed without delay
- Clear communication and programme ownership throughout
When these are in place, timelines can be compressed significantly. In one recent UAV programme using cylindrical cells, we moved from quotation to first customer units in approximately four weeks.
Examples of fast-turnaround battery pack production
Recent programmes across different applications demonstrate what this looks like in practice.
- In an advanced aerospace application, battery packs designed for use in orbit required additional protective processes. These were incorporated into production setup, with units progressing from receipt of order to full production build in 17 weeks.
- In UAV applications, rapid development cycles have required battery packs to be manufactured and delivered within tight windows, including a programme completed in around four weeks from purchase order to first units.
- In another drone-based programme, initial battery packs progressed quickly into production, with additional variants now following and UN38.3 certification testing being managed alongside manufacturing.
Moving existing battery pack designs into production quickly
Each of these programmes had different technical requirements but followed the same structured approach.
Build-to-print is well suited to OEMs who already have a validated battery pack design and need to move into production without delay.
