The Employer Audit is a unique scheme which validates the employers’ activities, explores their future plans and commitments, as well as examining their approaches to quality, social mobility, diversity and inclusion.
What Role Do Our Apprentices Play In The Business
Our apprentices form an integral part of our succession planning; Alexander Battery Technologies are ensuring that the workforce of today has the critical skills for tomorrow. In January and September of 2022, Alexander Battery Technologies introduced eight apprentices in various areas in the business. Working closely with East Durham College, the apprentices spend one day a week off-site, training at the technical college and the remaining four days are spent getting involved at the company, contributing their ideas and working hands-on with projects and the day-to-day running of the business.
Amy Jefferson, our HR Officer commented that “as a business, we’ve found the apprenticeship scheme to be the perfect balance of earning and learning and demonstrates our desire to invest in our workforce from a young age. This can be a key attraction for recruitment campaigns and retention of our workforce. The 5% Club is an environment that encourages collaboration and the opportunity to learn from one another within the industry to further progress our workforce and we’re grateful to be a part of that community.
The introduction of our apprentices into the workforce, including two female apprentices within the Engineering department, is firmly cementing Alexander Battery Technologies vision for diversity and inclusivity across the business.”
Claire Brymer, Finance Director at Alexander Battery Technologies added that “Alexanders is new to the 5% club and we are extremely pleased that, in the first year we were awarded silver. This is a well-deserved status for the company’s successful history in the investment in training, education and most of all people.
She went on to say that “succession planning was identified as a key focus in our strategic plan and it is imperative that we don’t limit the company growth plan by not having the skills or resource required. So, in an attempt to be proactive on this, we have recently launched a scheme for apprentices.”
This scheme will involve an intake of apprentices or similarly-sponsored student programs every year with a vision that Alexanders has a steady flow of employees growing skills in-line with the growth in the company. The apprentices are spread across different sections of the business; Design Engineering, Production Engineering, Supply chain and Quality who have all embraced their roles within the organisation and are showing outstanding qualities.
The company is committed to giving our staff the support and training they need to develop and reach their maximum potential.
From an impressive list of 129 members, Alexander Battery Technologies was one of just 14 Employers who met the Silver Standard. We are proud to be recognised alongside a broad range of companies that make up the 5% club. This includes large corporations as well as SME’s. We look forward to continuing to be recognised for our commitment to our staff.
