Introduction to industrial battery packs
Not all applications fall into neat categories and the products we support for industrial battery packs are possibly the most varied that we produce. Some of these batteries are relatively small, designed for systems monitoring, safety or backup applications while others are used to drive motors or run larger systems and need a modular design. The specifications for industrial applications are quite varied as a consequence; running from single-cell voltages (3.7V) up to 48V and beyond.
Industrial environments are more consistent in general and it’s common for custom battery packs in this market to require a robust mechanical design, capable of withstanding knocks and bangs as well as a wide temperature range.
Battery packs that are water-proof and validated to IP67 or IP68 are often requested and when a device is needed for a hazardous environment, for example in the oil and gas industry, then battery designs must be ATEX approved.
Alexander’s involvement in commercial battery packs
Each and every project is different from the last and in every way. Applications require a range of voltages and therefore cell-configurations, casing materials might be plastic or metal and the battery management system used in the pack will be capable of delivering monitoring, protection and communication. We engage with our customers on new projects by first of all understanding the critical technical and commercial parameters of the battery pack to build up a concept for you and your team to review. This process eliminates the risks and closes the gaps of the specification in order to give you a detailed understanding of the pack itself, the project timelines and all costs.
